The church has as a role to illuminate the society by structuring it around moral values in order not to be absorbed by the wickedness of the world. Such was the recommendation of Doctor Denis Mukwege to the protestant clergy at the two-day scientific Conference that was organized by the Faculty of Theology of the Evangelical University in Africa, EUA/Bukavu on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 April 2018.
This conference consisted in a call to the pastors and church leaders to preach the gospel with a spirit of patriotism. Around the topic entitled “the Prophetic Role of the Church in the current Socio-Policy Context of the RD Congo”, the Christians of the Church of Christ in Congo as well as those of different awakening churches of Bukavu were taught by different speech deliveries held by eminent professors of Theology and trainers of the pastors.
Belonging to the panel of this conference, professor Docteur Denis Mukwege underlined the fact that the church and, especially, the servants of God must revolutionize the city where they live. Although passengers on this earth, the men of God should not forget their role during their stay on earth.
Doctor Denis Mukwege specified that “the church must help to structure the society around values such as solidarity, work, freedom, integrity, justice and the truth…”,
In addition, the famous gynaecologist fustigated that Congolese people have remained deadened for a long time in a form of anaesthesia which does not allow them to awake and hold their destiny.
“A normal Congolese has always thought that it is by the Belgians’s fault (if the country is going badly) after more than 60 years! Today it is fault of the Rwandans, and no one seems to feel shame in saying so”, exclaimed Doctor Mukwege, judging such victimisation of others childish and irrational.
During this communication, the prize winner of the Sakharov 2014 told his colleagues not to let themselves tricked and diverted on the basis of useless gifts. Doctor Mukwege encouraged all to inculcate integrity and truth, two values that make the servants of God distinguished from the torturers.
“The people expect the Church to be the righteous one, they await from the church an orientation which goes differently from the attitude of the torturers”, he insisted.
However, Mukwege invited the church leaders not to be completely detached from politics, but to distinguish the ordinary politics that is furnished with demagogy and chicaneries from the real politics, which insinuates the good management of the city.
“The church has a role to play when it comes to social justice. We should not say, “it is not our business” “, released professor Mukwege in a teaching tone, specifying that the political role of the church goes even up to the process of choice of the political leaders because, according to him,” even by dropping one’s paper in the ballot box, this is also a political act “.
